Ted Gahl
Ted Gahl joins Towards Gallery
Towards is pleased to announce the representation of Ted Gahl. Known for an expansive painting practice that draws upon a wide variety of references, Gahl creates paintings that defy easy categorization.
Hovering between abstraction and representation, his works often have an ethereal quality, with broad swathes of colours and nuanced characters that seemingly transcend both time and space. Uniting his practice in an intuitive approach to image-making, and a deep appreciation for the history and act of painting itself.
Gahl was born in Connecticut, and splits his time between there and New York.
Recent solo and two-person exhibitions include Ted Gahl & Betty Kingseed, Towards Gallery, Toronto (2022); She is My Clock, MAMOTH Contemporary, London, UK (2022); and Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea, Harkawik Gallery, Los Angeles (2021).
His exhibition Le Goon is currently on view at Harkawik, New York until February 18.
Towards will include new works by Gahl as part of our presentation at NADA New York in May 2023.
Gahl received his MFA from RISD, and in 2022 was a recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant.
